Aircraft Cleaning & Detailing at Sywell Aerodrome

Sywell is one of England's most characterful aerodromes — the art-deco frontage, the grass, and a based population that includes some genuinely beautiful classic and vintage aircraft alongside modern tourers and business visitors.

Beautiful aircraft deserve presentation to match, and that is our specialism: hand washing, graded brightwork polishing, interior detailing and protection delivered at your hangar.

About an hour from base.

Classics, brightwork and show standard

Vintage and classic airframes ask different questions of a detailer: polished metal that must be worked with graded compounds rather than shortcuts, fabric surfaces with their own rules, paint systems older and thinner than anything modern. This is careful, patient work — and the results, on the right airframe, are the most satisfying we deliver. If you present your aircraft at fly-ins or shows, we can bring it to the line at a standard that draws a crowd.

Working at Sywell

You arrange hangar access; we plan the job around the airframe's materials — confirmed with you before any product touches it. Show-preparation visits are best booked with a buffer day for weather, so the aircraft presents at its absolute peak.

Blue Horizon Aviation is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the operator of Sywell Aerodrome. Airside access is arranged by you or your handling agent — see our Service Terms. Appearance care only; we never perform maintenance or engineering work.

Questions

Sywell — questions answered

What owners and operators at Sywell Aerodrome ask us most.

Can you polish vintage brightwork without thinning it dangerously?

Graded polishing is precisely about restraint: the least aggressive compound that achieves clarity, worked panel by panel. Where metal is thin or previously over-polished we say so and adapt — and anything that looks like an engineering concern is flagged, not polished over.

Do you understand fabric-covered aircraft?

Yes — fabric, classic paint systems and mixed-material airframes are treated with methods appropriate to each surface, agreed with you first. Nothing aggressive goes near a doped surface.

Can you prepare an aircraft for a show or fly-in?

Show preparation is a favourite job: full exterior detail, brightwork brought to mirror, glazing perfected and the cabin presented. Book ahead of the event with a weather margin.
